Q: Can I sunbathe after having undergone breast cancer surgery?
A: Exposure to the sun is not advisable during the first 2-3 weeks after surgery. It is recommended to avoid direct sun exposure to the wound in order to avoid permanent scar darkening and use a sunscreen with high uva protection for at least 6 months after the surgery. In case of radiation therapy, you are not allowed to be exposed to the sun during the duration of your treatment and you should wait for about two months before exposing yourself to direct sunlight.
