Fecal impaction is also known as "stercoroma", "coproma" and "scatoma". It is a mass of hard stool, formed in the latter parts of the intestines and can cause an obstruction. This condition is often associated with constipation. The increase in the residence time of feces in the intestine, can indeed lead to reabsorbing water. Fecal bulk, private water, becomes increasingly hard, dry and difficult to evacuate, leading to the development of fecal impaction.
In the initial stage, the fecal impaction can be entirely asymptomatic, and the accompanying symptoms are typical of an intestinal occlusion (pain and abdominal distension, spasmodic contractions of the anal sphincter associated with pain, nausea and vomiting).

What is the therapy for fecal impaction?
In case of fecal impaction, it is very important to ensure softening of stool through special enemas and suppositories or by manually crushing. In the serious and complex conditions, it may be necessary to resort to a surgical intervention.
