Bepridil is prescribed in the case of angina pectoris associated with coronary heart disease. Given that it can induce heartbeat abnormalities, its use is restricted only to cases where other drugs that would normally be used are not effective.

What is Bepridil?

Bepridil is an amine calcium channel blocker. It works by stopping the action of the channels that transport calcium into cells. In this way, it partially counteracts the increase of the calcium levels inside the cardiac muscle cells, thus reducing the force with which the heart beats. As a result, the heart needs less oxygen to work and angina pectoris (pain in the heart) is prevented.

How should Bepridil be taken?

Bepridil is administered orally, usually in the form of tablets to be taken once a day. In case of nausea, it can be taken with meals or before going to sleep.
