Humanitas Cancer Center takes advantage of TrueBeam, a revolutionary linear accelerator that is able to deliver very high and extremely targeted treatment doses in a few seconds. This system provides for treatments that could not be delivered in the past, thus taking care of an increasingly higher number of tumors: it stands out as the new treatment option for patients with abdominal metastatic diseases, as well as liver, pancreatic and lung cancers that cannot be operated-on.
It relies on state-of-the art imaging techniques that take into account the internal movements of organs due to normal breathing processes and, through Rapid Arc technology (which delivers radiation on a 360° arc pattern, rotating around the patient), it delivers the highest treatment dose to the target cancer tissue with millimeter precision, thus sparing healthy surrounding organs. Dose intensity per fraction (dose rate) can also be remarkably increased.
