Professor Silvio Danese, head of the Center for Chronic Inflammatory Diseases of the Intestine of Humanitas, and Professor of Gastroenterology at Humanitas University has been awarded the UEG Research Prize 2019 – the European Association of Gastroenterology.
The Research Prize
It is one of the most prestigious awards in the sector: Professor Danese won the prize – which will be collected during the opening ceremony of the UEG Week in Barcelona 2019 – for the project entitled “The gut virome as a trigger for IBD: from metagenomics to pathogenesis”.
The main area of his research and investigation were the fundamental mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of IBD. Professor Danese is involved in numerous international clinical studies on IBD and published more than 400 articles in several journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Gastroenterology, Gut, Journal of Clinical Investigation. Currently he is also president of the European Crohn’s Colitis Organization
