Skipping meals, eating at irregular times, or even fasting, can all trigger migraines – explains Dr. Vincenzo Tullo, a neurologist specialist and Head of the Cephalagia Ambulatory at Humanitas. The glycemic drop resulting from an irregular lifestyle, along with an unbalanced diet, promote the onset of migraines. There are no foods that make the headache disappear, but you can manage its symptoms by combining pharmacological treatments with lifestyle and diet tips. To reduce the intensity and frequency of migraine attacks, it is preferable to:
- Not skip meals and not fast
- Eat at regular times
- Consume foods that are more easily tolerated
- Never miss fresh food
- Reduce foods rich in preservatives and chemical additives
- Favour seasonal fruit and vegetables, legumes and cereals
- Consume “detox” foods, such as soups or broths with vegetables, to purify the body.
