Technological innovation to improve the pathway towards patient care – W Hospital arrives at Humanitas – the first digital medical records solution in Italy. Its characteristics are described in an article in IL SOLE 24 ORE published on January 5th.
What is W Hospital?
Created in the early 2000s as an academic research project by a team of bioengineers at the Polytechnic University of Milan – and now proprietary solution Lutech – wHospital® Framework is a web platform that enables the complete computerization of the clinical process.
In Humanitas, the review of the information system has led to the creation of a database that provides access to patient information with due reliability and granularity to a large number of users (doctors, nurses, health care workers), thus making the data available immediately. In addition to the timeliness of the information received on a medical report/ patient, the electronic medical record system ensures an even greater transparency of information and at the same time, greater security.
“We have been called to make a real digital channel available to favor the multidisciplinary patient care and the development of clinical research,” adds Elena Sini, CIO at Humanitas. “Thanks to the flexibility of the new information system, we have now been able to take advantage of the increased availability of data, a higher level of collaboration within the Institute and a simplification in the use of information thanks to the use of mobile devices”.
The solution implemented – after a series of detailed analyzes of solutions available on the market – is based on the data management platform HIP (Healthcare Integration Platform) of EMC, integrated with the application of wHospital Lutech, which are system integrators with strong skills in the health sector. In just six months after launching the project, all patients were managed through electronic medical records.
With the electronic medical record project, Humanitas won the Digital Innovation Award in Health for the category “Management of clinical and healthcare processes” promoted by the ‘Observatory on Digital Health Innovation in the School of Management of the Polytechnic University of Milan.’
