Side effects associated with Cromolyn sodium
Depending on the form in which it is administered, cromolyn sodium can trigger the following side effects:
- Tarnished vision
- Eye irritation
- Burning eyes
- Minor throat irritations
- Cough
- Difficulty breathing
- Headache
- Runny nose
- Irritation inside the nose
- Nausea
- Skin rash
- Joint pain
You should contact a doctor immediately if you experience:
- Pneumonia
- Wheezing
- Acute attacks of asthma
Contraindications and warnings associated with the use of Cromolyn sodium
The use of eye drops can cause blurry vision and make it difficult to drive or operate hazardous machinery. The inhaler should not be used in case of acute asthma attacks.
Before starting treatment with cromolyn sodium, it is also important to tell your doctor if:
- You have any allergies to the active substance, its excipients or any other drugs or food
- You are taking any other medications, herbal remedies or supplements. Mentioning in particular: steroids or drugs against allergies
- You are suffering (or have suffered) from stress , trauma , infections or other diseases
- You have recently discontinued treatment with steroids and asthma has worsened
- You wear soft contact lenses (in case of use with eye drops)
- You are pregnant or breast-feeding
It is also important to inform physicians, surgeons and dentists of any ongoing treatment with cromolyn sodium.
