Piroxcam is an anti-inflammatory drug (NSAIDs). Even though the exact mechanism of action is not known, it appears to work by blocking the effects of substances responsible for inflammation.

Side effects associated with Piroxcam
Piroxcam can be associated with ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding. It may also reduce the number of platelets, raising the pressure, trigger severe skin reactions or liver problems.

Contraindications and warnings associated with the use of Piroxcam
Moreover, before starting the treatment it is important to tell your doctor if:
- You have any allergies to the active substance, its supstances, other medications (especially aspirin or other NSAIDs) or any food
- You are taking other medications, herbal remedies and supplements, especially anticoagulants, aspirin, clopidogrel, corticosteroids, heparin, rivaroxaban, SSRI, probenecid, cholestyramine, bisphosphonates, cyclosporine, hydantoins, lithium, methotrexate, quinolones, sulfonamides, sulfonylureas, ACE inhibitors or diuretics
- You suffer (or have suffered) from gastrointestinal bleeding, kidney or liver disease, diabetes, gastrointestinal problems, fluid retention or swelling, asthma, nasal polyps, oral inflammation, high blood pressure, blood disorders, bleeding or blood clots, cardiovascular problems, dehydration, hypovolemia and low levels of sodium in the blood
- You have fertility problems or undergoing examinations and treatments for fertility problems
- You smoke, drink alcohol or have a history of alcoholism
- You have a planned or had a recent heart bypass surgery
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
