Avanafil can potentially affect the ability to drive or operate hazardous machinery, especially if taken in combination with alcohol or other drugs. It may also cause dangerous dizziness and fainting when standing up from a sitting or lying position, especially in the morning, when it's hot, if you have a fever, if you drink alcohol or while exercising.
Avanafil is contraindicated in the presence of certain kidney, liver or heart disorders and if you are taking other medicines for erectile dysfunction (nitrates, nitroprusside, atanazavir, boceprevir, clarithromycin, indinavir, itraconazole, ketoconazole, mifepristone, nefazodone, nelfinavir, ritonavir, saquinavir, telaprevir, telithromycin and voriconazole).
Moreover, before starting the treatment it is important to tell your doctor if:
- You have any allergies to the active substance, its excipients, other drugs, food or any other substance
- You are taking other medications, herbal remedies and supplements, in particular alpha-blockers, azole antifungals, fosaprepitant and aprepitant, diltiazem, macrolide antibiotics, mifepristone, nefazodone, protease inhibitors, drugs for high blood pressure, nitrates, nitroprusside, carbamazepine, idantonine, phenobarbital, primidone, and St. John's wort rifamycins
- You suffer (or have suffered) from kidney, liver or eye problems, hearing loss, cardiovascular disease, low blood pressure, uncontrolled high blood pressure, irregular heartbeats, deformation of the penis, blood disorders, priapism, ulcers, and bleeding
- You suffer from dehydration or hypovolemia
- You had a heart attack or a stroke
- You had heart surgery in the previous 6 months
- You are using drugs on daily basis
- You drink alcohol
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
