Naphazoline is a vasoconstrictor, which acts on certain receptors in the muscles of the blood vessels, causing narrowing of the latter.

What is Naphazoline?

Naphazoline helps reduce irritation in the nose and eyes caused by airway disorders (such as sinusitis, pharyngitis and rhinitis) or by irritants such as dust, wind, smoke and air pollutants. It can also be used to relieve tired eyes from intense work.

How should Naphazoline be taken?

Depending on the needs naphazoline can be taken in the form of sprays for nasal use or eye drops.

Side effects associated with Naphazoline

Possible adverse effects of naphazoline include the following:

  • In the case of eye drops, dilated pupils, eye pain and blurred vision. In the latter two cases it is good to consult a doctor
  • If it is a nasal spray, then it is used to reduce irritation to the nose. There are more rare side effects such as hypertension, tachycardia, insomnia and tremors.

  • you are allergic to active ingredient to the medication
  • you are under the age of 12
  • you have glaucoma, inflammation of the iris, corneal damage, serious diseases or disorders that are persistent in the eyes, diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular problems, hyperthyroidism
  • you are taking other drugs or medications
  • you are pregnant or breastfeeding

It is good to remember that the eye drops based with naphazoline can temporarily blur the view, making it dangerous to drive or operate dangerous machinery. Finally, it is good to consult your doctor if you are planning an eye surgery or general anesthesia.
