Ageusia is the loss of taste and can be caused by an infection of the upper respiratory tract, head trauma, medication and diseases that can be connected with the loss of smell (anosmia). Often the condition does not result in total loss of smell. When it comes to a reduction of the sense of taste it results in hypogeusia, while when the taste is altered it results in dysgeusia.

What is the therapy for ageusia?
When drugs cause the loss of taste it can be resolved by stopping the intake or changing the dose. Be aware that only your doctor can safely change the prescribed therapy. It is therefore not recommended to make personal decisions on the medications you are taking.
When the cause is a specific disease, it is necessary to cure the primary disease.
