The Department of Cardiac Surgery performs over 2300 surgeries and sees over 44,500 patients each year, working with various heart conditions, mainly focusing on:
- Repair or replacement surgery of the mitral, aortic and tricuspid valves both with minimally invasive surgical access and through percutaneous techniques (TAVI, MitraClip, Valve-in-Valve) in selected cases;
- Surgery of the ascending aorta and aortic arch (for aneurysms or dissections), also while preserving the native aortic valve;
- Myocardial revascularization surgery (coronary artery bypass graft), including full arterial revascularization and minimally invasive access, depending on the case;
- Surgery for complications of myocardial infarction (such as interventricular defects, heart ruptures, ventricular aneurysms);
- Arrhythmia surgery: ablation of atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardias;
- Cardiac tumor surgery;
- Surgery of Congenital Pathology in Adults (GUCH).
The team also carries out outpatient pre-operative visits, thus confirming surgical indications and providing the appropriate explanations on the intervention and the risks. The doctors also remain active in the postoperative period, providing continuity of care with periodic checks over time.
